Process Grief In Your Body

Read First

This short practice will take you through a sequence from support and protection to release and relief.

Grief can be held for any number of things. It can be loss of a loved one to death or simply growing apart. It can be loss of a future you thought was coming, or loss of the type of life you once had. The common thread is that all grief stems from a place of love, because you would not be grieving what’s lost if you had not once had love for it.

For this practice I want you to either sit curled in a ball supported against a wall, or laying on the ground, curled up supported by the floor or even a wall next to you. You know your body, so choose what feels supportive to you.

I will repeat this in the video, but we are not focusing on the specific thing we are grieving, we are purely focused on the sensation within the body that shows up when grief hits- this is often a feeling of tightness or heaviness, but everyone is different so try to notice what your specific body is feeling.

After the practice, please allow time to walk around, or swing your arms, just an extra moment to move your body. This will encourage the heavy grief energy to continue to release and give your body a bit of endorphin support.
