Somatic Senses: Class 4 Smell
Smell is often tied to incredible sense memory. You smell a certain cologne or perfume and it immediately reminds you of someone from your past. Or the smell of certain food dishes will transport you back to dinners at your grandparents house. It is a fantastic sense to help connect with your specific body!
Our sense of smell can trigger immediate responses; disgust, happiness, relaxation or even fear. In body work, like massages, they often use essential oils to relax you. Other scents like rosemary have been known to help your mind focus. The nose is used in nearly every form of breathwork, and plays a crucial role even filtering the air we breathe as it enters our system. These are all subjects we will get deeper into in later classes.
Today we are starting at the basics. We tap into our initial reactions to scents throughout our day, and we will do one breathing technique in today’s class. This is to introduce you and your specific system to how you respond to the sense of smell, and the power of breathwork. This work is designed to make you slow down, and quite literally ‘stop and smell the roses’.
